Trauma Therapy

Healing is possible. Reclaim your peace, your body, and your life—one step at a time.

Do You Feel Like the Past Is Still Living in Your Body?

  • Do you often feel anxious, on edge, or emotionally numb—and you’re not sure why?
  • Do certain sounds, smells, or situations send you spiraling into panic or emotional overwhelm?
  • Have you tried talk therapy, self-help books, or meditation, but still feel stuck in the same emotional cycles?

You’re not broken—and you’re not alone.

Many of the people I work with—especially women in their 30s to 50s—have done so much to understand themselves. They’ve journaled, reflected, worked with therapists. They’re highly self-aware, but still find themselves caught in loops of fear, shame, self-doubt, or disconnection. Despite doing “all the right things,” life still feels heavy. The weight of chronic trauma, childhood wounds, or relationship pain continues to show up in their bodies and relationships, even when their minds understand it all.

This is what trauma can look like: You wake up tired, even after a full night’s sleep. Your body feels tense, your chest tight. You power through the day, but little things make you feel overwhelmed or irritable. Maybe you numb out with food, social media, or overwork. At night, you lie in bed with your mind racing, your heart pounding, or a hollow feeling in your chest. You might wonder, “Why can’t I just feel normal?”

Trauma therapy can help shift this from the inside out.

Trauma Isn’t a Flaw—It’s a Survival Strategy

If you’re living with the effects of trauma, it doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means your body and nervous system have been doing their job—to protect you. Whether your trauma stems from childhood neglect, emotional abuse, relationship betrayal, or a specific event like an accident or assault, your system adapted to survive. That might look like:

  • Feeling constantly on edge or "on guard"
  • Struggling to trust others or let your guard down
  • Going numb during stress or conflict
  • Overthinking everything to feel in control
  • Experiencing flashbacks, nightmares, or chronic tension

These are all normal trauma responses. Over time, though, they can keep you stuck in survival mode—even when the danger is long gone.

Our culture often tells us to "move on" or "get over it." But trauma isn't just a memory—it's something that lives in the body. Without support, it can linger for decades, affecting your relationships, health, confidence, and joy.

What Is Trauma Therapy?

Trauma therapy is a safe, supportive space to gently process the pain of the past and reclaim your sense of self in the present. It's not about rehashing every detail or reliving old wounds. It’s about helping your nervous system come out of survival mode so that you can live, love, and rest again.

I specialize in complex trauma therapy, which supports individuals who’ve experienced prolonged or repeated trauma—especially during childhood. My work also includes helping people with PTSD, emotional abuse, or trauma from toxic relationships. As a PTSD therapist, I guide clients through practical tools to regulate their nervous systems, reconnect with their bodies, and begin healing safely from the inside out.

My Approach

I integrate the following evidence-informed modalities:

  • Somatic Therapy: Because trauma lives in the body, I use body-based techniques that gently help release stored stress, tension, and emotion. This includes grounding, breathwork, and felt-sense awareness.
  • Polyvagal-Informed Work: Using principles from the polyvagal theory, we help your nervous system shift from fight, flight, or freeze back into safety and connection.
  • Inner Child and Parts Work: We identify the "parts" of you that were formed during difficult moments—like the scared child, the harsh inner critic, or the perfectionist—and offer them compassion and integration.
  • Psychospiritual Integration (Optional): For those who are open to it, we may explore the deeper soul-level impact of trauma—grief, purpose, reconnection, and meaning.

Our sessions are trauma-informed, paced to your readiness, and deeply respectful. Whether you’ve been frozen, dissociated, anxious, or emotionally reactive, we work with your body and nervous system—not against it.

What You May Experience Through Trauma Therapy

As we work together, you may begin to notice:

  • Greater calm, clarity, and ease in your body
  • Increased capacity to respond (instead of react) to stress
  • More self-trust and self-compassion
  • Improved sleep, digestion, and energy levels
  • A deeper sense of emotional safety—within yourself and in relationships

We don't force change—we create the conditions for healing. And your system knows how to heal, once it feels safe enough to do so.

The Science Behind Trauma Healing

Trauma is not simply an event from your past—it’s an experience that can live on in your nervous system. When something overwhelming happens and your body doesn't have the resources to fully process it, your nervous system activates a built-in survival response: fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. These responses are biologically wired to keep you safe in danger. But when they get stuck—when your body never gets the signal that it’s safe again—they become part of your daily baseline, even years later.

This is why trauma healing isn’t just about thinking differently. It’s about helping your nervous system return to safety. When we experience trauma, the brain’s higher reasoning functions often go offline, while the limbic system (emotion center) and brainstem (survival center) take over. This is where somatic and polyvagal-informed therapy steps in. Rather than forcing you to rehash old memories, these approaches gently guide your system out of survival mode and into regulation.

Central to this process is the vagus nerve—a key player in the parasympathetic nervous system that connects your brain to your heart, lungs, and gut. When activated in a safe and supported way, this pathway signals to the body: “It’s okay now. You can rest.” This is the essence of trauma resolution—not pushing through, but letting go when it feels safe to do so.

Neuroscience research shows that therapeutic relationships, breath regulation, gentle movement, and body awareness all promote neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to rewire and heal. Over time, as your system learns it doesn’t have to be on high alert, your thoughts, emotions, and relationships begin to shift.

You don't have to force healing. You simply need the right conditions—warmth, attunement, and tools that work with the body, not against it. Your nervous system knows how to heal. Trauma therapy just helps you remember how.

Still Wondering If This Is Right for You?

“Do I really need trauma therapy?”

If you’ve experienced repeated stress, emotional neglect, abuse, or betrayal, and you’re still feeling the effects—you deserve support. Trauma isn’t about what happened to you. It’s about how your system was overwhelmed by it.

“Will I have to relive everything?”

No. We focus on what’s happening in the here and now. You are always in control of what you share, and nothing is forced.

“What if I feel numb or disconnected?”

That’s common—and it’s a protective response. Over time, with gentle practice, we can help you reconnect with your feelings and your body at a pace that feels safe.

“Can online therapy work for trauma?”
